Ford Focus is a front-wheel-drive five-door "golf" -class hatchback by European standards, having a "global positioning", which boasts an attractive design, all the positive qualities inherent in "family cars", as well as a driving character ...

The target audience of this "American" is not delineated by any framework - it is addressed to both young people leading an active lifestyle and people of age who want to acquire a reliable "iron horse" at a reasonable price ...

The world premiere of the fourth generation five-door took place on April 10, 2018 - as part of a special event in Germany. The revolution did not happen, but the car made a "coup" - it retained its generally recognizable appearance, but became more attractive and mature, moved to a completely new platform, "prescribed" modern and efficient engines under the hood, and also "armed" with a wide range of progressive equipment.

The “fourth” Ford Focus looks elegant, fresh and dynamic, but its appearance is clearly lacking in originality - there are too many “popular quotes” familiar from the models of other automakers.

The front hatchback attracts attention with frowning headlights, an inverted "hexagon" of the radiator grille "a la Aston Martin" and a tightly knocked down bumper, and from the rear it catches the eye with graceful lamps with LED "stuffing", an embossed trunk lid and a bumper with one or more exhaust pipes (depending on the version).

In profile, the five-door has a balanced, taut and energetic look, but it does not stand out in anything special against the background of competitors - a sloping hood, expressive "splashes" on the sidewalls, a falling roofline and correct cutouts of wheel arches, in which "rollers" up to 18 are placed inches.

The "Focus" of the fourth generation is a typical representative of the "C" class according to the European classification: it is 4378 mm long, of which the gap between the wheelsets "extends" to 2700 mm, the width does not exceed 1825 mm, and the height reaches 1454 mm.

The interior of the 2019 Ford Focus model year is designed according to the latest fashion trends, but lacks any "zest". A multifunctional steering wheel with a raised "physique", a laconic "toolbox" with analog instruments and a color display between them, a "laconic" center console with a protruding 8-inch infotainment monitor and a stylish block of "microclimate" - inside the hatchback looks like a "solid five" ”, However, in many solutions it resembles models of other brands too much.

At the same time, the car boasts fine-tuned ergonomics and high-quality finishing materials (especially in the luxurious Vignale).

Salon decoration "Focus" is designed to accommodate five adults, and a sufficient supply of free space is provided here even in the second row.

At the front, the car is equipped with comfortable chairs with optimally pronounced side bolsters and a wide number of adjustments, and at the back - a full-fledged sofa with a "hospitable" profile.

The hatchback's arsenal includes a spacious luggage compartment with smooth walls, the maximum volume of which is 1354 liters.

The rear row of seats folds in a 60:40 ratio, but in this case, it is impossible to get a flat area. In the underground niche at the five-door "hide" a spare wheel and a set of tools.

The fourth generation Ford Focus offers a wide range of powertrains that direct all power exclusively to the wheels of the front axle:

  • The petrol range is opened by a 1.0-liter EcoBoost inline three-cylinder engine with a turbocharger, direct injection technology, a 12-valve timing structure and a variable valve timing system, available in three boost levels:
    • 85 horsepower at 4000-6000 rpm and 170 Nm of torque at 1400-3500 rpm;
    • 100 h.p. at 4500-6000 rpm and 170 Nm of peak thrust at 1400-4000 rpm;
    • 125 h.p. at 6000 rpm and 170 Nm of rotational recoil at 1400-4500 rpm.
  • It is followed in the hierarchy by a petrol 1.5-liter "four" EcoBoost with a vertical architecture, turbocharging, phase shifters at the inlet and outlet, direct "power supply" and a 16-valve timing belt of the DOHC type, which is declared in two modifications:
    • 150 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 240 Nm of available torque at 1600-4000 rpm;
    • 182 h.p. at 6000 rpm and 240 Nm of maximum potential at 1600-5000 rpm.
  • The "junior" diesel version is a 1.5-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and accumulator fuel injection, provided in two stages of "pumping":
    • The 8-valve generates 95 hp. at 3600 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 1500-2000 rpm;
    • and 16-valve - 120 hp. at 3600 rpm and 300 Nm at 1750-2250 rpm.
  • Closing the power spectrum is a 2.0-liter EcoBlue four-cylinder turbocharged common rail injection diesel with 150 hp. at 3750 rpm and 370 Nm of torque at 2000-3250 rpm.

By default, all motors are mated with a 6-speed "manual" gearbox, but the 125-horsepower "three" and 150-horsepower units are optionally relying on an 8-band hydromechanical "automatic" with manual gear shifting (by means of paddle shifters) ...

The fourth generation Ford Focus is based on the global C2 platform with a transverse engine and a wide proportion of high-strength steel in the body structure.

On the front axle of the hatchback, an independent suspension of the MacPherson type with a transverse stabilizer is mounted, but the layout of the rear part depends on the modification:

  • on cars with a 1.0-liter "EcoBust" and a 1.5-liter diesel engine - a lightweight semi-independent system with a torsion beam,
  • and the others have an independent SLA multi-link attached to a stretcher.

For a surcharge, the car can be equipped with adaptive dampers CDD (only on versions with independent suspensions), which adjust the parameters of operation by signals from several sensors every two milliseconds.

"Nemets" is equipped with a rack and pinion steering mechanism, into which an electric power steering with active characteristics is "implanted". All wheels of the five-door are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated at the front), complemented by a mass of modern assistants.

The "fourth" Ford Focus will not reach the Russian market until 2019, but in Germany it is already sold in the "Trend", "Cool & Connect", "ST-Line", "Titanium" and "Vignale" trim levels at a price from 18,700 euros (~ 1.4 million rubles).

In the basic configuration, the hatchback "flaunts": six airbags, air conditioning, 16-inch steel wheels with caps, halogen headlights, power windows for all doors, ABS, leather multi-steering wheel, light sensors, "cruise", automatic braking system, media center, audio system and some other equipment.

The “top-end” version costs at least 28,700 euros (~ 2.2 million rubles), and its privileges are: full LED optics, automatic parking function, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, an infotainment complex with an 8-inch screen, heated and electric front seats, leather interior trim and "darkness" of other "bells and whistles".
