DS 9 is a front-wheel drive full-size premium business-class sedan (aka the “E” segment by European standards), combining stylish looks, luxurious interior decoration and modern technical and technological components ... In addition, it is the “commander-in-chief” of the premium lineup. DS brand (at least at the time of release) and its first "global product" ...

The official debut of the DS 9 took place on February 25, 2020 during an online presentation, while the appearance of the serial three-volume was preceded by a concept called the Numero 9, which was presented back in April 2012 at the Beijing International Auto Show.

Outside, DS 9 "flaunts" not only a beautiful, stylish and proportional, but also a truly memorable appearance with spectacular lighting technology, embossed bumpers, expressive stampings and an abundance of chrome details.

In terms of its dimensions, the four-door corresponds to the parameters of the E-class by European standards: it is 4933 mm long, of which the center distance extends by 2895 mm, it fits 1855 mm in width, and does not exceed 1468 mm in height.

Interior

The interior design of the DS 9 sedan looks attractive, modern and presentable - digital "instrumentation", a relief multi-steering wheel with a truncated bottom steering wheel, a stylish center console with a 12.3-inch touchscreen media center, which has incorporated the control of almost all secondary functions.

Inside the sedan, extremely expensive finishing materials are used, regardless of the version.

The three-volume salon has five seats, with ergonomic front seats and a comfortable rear sofa (in both cases there is heating, ventilation and a built-in massager).

How roomy the trunk of the car is is not officially reported, but according to preliminary data, in its normal state it is able to "absorb" about 500 liters of luggage.

Specifications

For DS 9, two modifications are announced to choose from:

  • In the basic version, the sedan is equipped with a 1.6-liter PureTech four-cylinder petrol engine with a turbocharger, direct injection, 16-valve DOHC timing and variable valve timing, which generates 225 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. The unit works in conjunction with an 8-band "automatic" Aisin and driving front wheels.
  • An alternative option is the plug-in hybrid E-Tense, equipped with the same "turbo four", but also supplemented by a 110-horsepower electric motor (320 Nm) integrated into the gearbox, and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 11.9 kWh. The total output of the power plant is 225 hp. and 320 Nm of peak thrust, and the electric cruising range is about 50 km.

It is worth noting that in the future there will be a more powerful hybrid modification, as well as a version with all-wheel drive.

Design features

The DS 9 is based on the modular "front-wheel drive" EMP2 architecture with a transverse engine arrangement and extensive use of high-strength grades of steel in the load-bearing structure of the monocoque body.

The car is equipped with fully independent suspensions with adaptive electronically controlled shock absorbers: front - MacPherson struts, rear - a multi-link system. By default, the sedan is equipped with electric power rack and pinion steering and circular disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle).

Options and prices

Sales of DS 9 in Europe and China will begin in the second half of 2020 (closer to that moment, the configuration and prices will be announced), and its production will be set up at a Chinese plant.

For the three-volume, a wide range of options will be offered: front and side airbags, fully LED optics, adaptive cruise control, a virtual instrument cluster, a media center with a 12.3-inch screen, Nappa leather trim, heating, ventilation and a massager for front and rear seats, night system visions, multi-zone climate control, car parking, adaptive suspension and more.
