Genesis G70 is a rear- or four-wheel drive luxury sedan of the mid-size category (aka the D segment according to the European classification), designed to impose competition on such "class regulars" as the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-class ... The car combines muscular look, premium interior and high-performance "stuffing" ...

The world premiere of the Genesis G70 took place on September 15, 2017 - at a special event in the Olympic Park in Seoul, which was attended by 15 thousand guests (however, for the first time this car was presented as a concept of the same name in the fall of 2016 at the New York Auto Show).

The sedan, which completed the formation of the line of four-door models of the South Korean brand, went on sale in its homeland a few days after its debut ... and it only reached the Russian market in the spring of 2018.

Outside, the Genesis G70 looks attractive, sporty fit and instantly recognizable: the features of the "older" models are successfully inscribed in its muscular appearance. Moreover, there is no Asian kitsch in the exterior of the three-volume.

The front of the car is decided in the style of the flagship G90 sedan - an aggressive look of lighting technology, an impressive trapezoid of the grille with a honeycomb pattern and sculptural outlines of the bumper.

The sedan has a dynamic and squat silhouette, which is energized by a long hood, embossed "folds" on the sidewalls and a sloping roof line that turns into a short "branch" of the trunk.

Well, the lean rear end, decorated with stylish lanterns and a powerful bumper with a diffuser and a pair of exhaust pipes, successfully completes the sporty look of the four-door.

"G-seventy" is a typical representative of the D-class according to the European classification: it is 4685 mm long, 1850 mm wide, and does not exceed 1400 mm in height. The gap between the wheelsets is 2835 mm for the "Korean", and its "traveling" weight varies from 1595 to 1785 kg (depending on the modification).

The interior of the Genesis G70 is designed in the currently fashionable spirit of minimalism, but at the same time it is not devoid of sportiness. The center console, slightly turned towards the driver, is not cluttered with many buttons and controls, but is decorated with a protruding 8-inch "TV" of the multimedia complex, a laconic audio system unit and three air conditioning controls.

The stylish three-spoke steering wheel with a raised rim, and the classic instrument cluster with analog dials, the arrows of which in the "sleeping" position are directed straight down, and the colored board of the board computer, fit perfectly into the interior decoration.

The four-door interior is made exclusively of premium finishing materials - soft plastics, aluminum and genuine leather.

Formally, the Genesis G70's “apartments” are five-seater, but the second row of seats, for all its convenience, is clearly molded for two people (besides, a high floor tunnel will definitely interfere with the average passenger). But in the front part there are ergonomic chairs with a pronounced side profile, optimal padding density and the widest range of adjustments.

The trunk of the Korean sedan is small by the standards of the mid-size class - its volume in normal condition is only 330 liters. The rear sofa, divided into two unequal sections, slightly smoothes the situation, which, when folded, opens an opening for the transportation of oversized cargo. A compact spare wheel and a set of tools are "hiding" in an underground niche near the four-door.

For the Genesis G70, three power units are announced to choose from:

  • The basic version is a 2.0-liter petrol "four" Theta II T-GDI (exclusively with such an engine the car is delivered to the Russian market) with an in-line layout, a turbocharger, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing, which is offered in two "pumping" options:
    • 197 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 353 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm;
    • 247 h.p. at 6200 rpm and 353 Nm of rotational potential at 1400-4000 rpm.
  • An alternative is the 2.2-liter R-FR VGT in-line four-cylinder diesel engine with Common Rail power technology, a turbocharger, a 16-valve timing structure and an intercooler, producing 200 hp. at 3800 rpm and 440 Nm of peak thrust at 1750-2750 rpm.
  • Under the hood of the "top" modification "Sport" is a petrol V-shaped "six" T-GDI of the Lambda II family with a working volume of 3.3 liters with a turbocharging, direct fuel supply, 24 valves and phase shifters at the outlet and inlet, generating 370 hp ... at 6000 rpm and 510 Nm of possible potential at 1300-4500 rpm.

By default, all engines are combined with an 8-band "automatic" and rear-wheel drive transmission, and as an option for them, an all-wheel drive system with a multi-plate clutch is provided, which, if necessary, transfers up to 50% of the thrust to the wheels of the front axle (in the "Sport" version - also with limited slip differential).

The all-wheel-drive sedan with a 3.3-liter engine "shoots" from a standstill to 100 km / h after 4.7 seconds, and rushes to a maximum of 270 km / h (data for other versions have not yet been reported).

At the heart of the Genesis G70 is a rear-wheel drive "bogie" with a longitudinally placed power plant and a body that consists of more than half of high-strength grades of steel.

On the front axle of the sedan, an independent suspension of the MacPherson type is used, and on the rear there is a multi-link architecture (both there and there with passive shock absorbers and transverse stabilizers).

The four-door rack-and-pinion steering mechanism is complemented by a rack-mounted electric power amplifier, and all its wheels are equipped with ventilated disc brakes.

As for the Genesis G70 Sport, it boasts electronically controlled shock absorbers, a variable pitch steering complex, reinforced Brembo brakes and a launch control system against the background of the standard model.

In the Russian market, this mid-size premium sedan in 2018 is offered exclusively with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine (in two boost options) and an all-wheel drive transmission in five trim levels to choose from - Premier, Elegance, Advance, Supreme and "Sport" (the first two are available exclusively with a 197-horsepower "four", and the last - only with a 247-horsepower).

The base car costs a minimum of 1,949,000 rubles, and its equipment includes: seven airbags, faux eco-leather trim, ABS, ESC, HAC, rain sensor, dual-zone climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, media center with an 8-inch screen, front and rear parking sensors, heated front seats, a rear-view camera, high-quality audio system and much more.

A car with a 247-horsepower unit is sold for at least 2,399,000 rubles, the top modification "Supreme" is offered at a price of 2,709,000 rubles, and a sports performance will cost from 2,899,000 rubles.

The most "sophisticated" variant can also boast: intelligent "cruise", 19-inch wheels, blind spot monitoring, automatic braking system, all-round cameras, lane keep assist, fully LED optics, head-up display, electric drive and ventilation of the front seats, heating rear sofa, premium "music" with nine speakers and Nappa leather trim.
